    Description

GE Mazda No. 75 Photoflash on Display Base and Brass Plaque. RARE & UNIQUE
What is the point in having a vintage GE Mazda No. 75 Photoflash if you can’t display it?
    This is one you can!
The 75 was developed during WWII for nighttime aerial reconnaissance photography. Later it was used by spelunkers to illuminate caves, and sports photographers entire football fields with a single bulb.
It emits a HUGE amount of light.
A single 75 is the equivalent to more than 500 general service 1000-watt lamps and rated at 180,000 lumen seconds of light.
Filled with oxygen and crumpled squares of extremely thin magnesium foil, the GE Mazda Type 75 was the largest flashbulb ever manufactured. It is over 8 inches tall, 4 inches in diameter, and has a girth of more than 14 inches.
Mazda was a trademarked name registered by General Electric (GE) in 1909 for incandescent light bulbs. The name was used from 1909 to 1945 in the United States by GE and Westinghouse. Mazda brand light bulbs were made for decades after 1945 outside the US. The company chose the name due to its association with Ahura Mazda, the transcendental and universal God of Zoroastrianism whose name means light of wisdom in the Avestan language.
The name Mazda was also used to describe GE’s E27 screw base that the No. 75 uses. The screw base was invented by Thomas Edison and patented in 1881.
The hardwood base holding this Mazda is 4-1/2” X 3-1/2” X ¾” and features an engraved brass plaque. From the base to the top, it is about 9.”
You are not buying just a flashbulb; you will own a unique and rare piece of photography history.
We will double box with padding. This photoflash may not be returned if broken or flashed.
